Tea players eyeing major presence in CIS region

August 19, 2015

A delegation of tea exporters, merchant exporters, and auctioneers will be attending the World Food Moscow from September 14-17, 2015.

Russia is the world’s fourth-largest consumer of tea. These exporters are targeting the entire CIS region. Russia and CIS countries have an annual tea consumption of around 200-220 million kg, of which exports from India account for 50 million kilograms. The Russian market has been a significant consumer of orthodox tea but has now taken to CTC in a big way. Indian players are also targeting Georgia since it has strong potential as a future tea market and can also act as a gateway to Turkey. Turkey has an annual tea consumption of around 310 million kg, while domestic production is about 150 million kg.
