Spices Board inaugurates second e-auction center for cardamom

Spices Board set up its second center for e-auctions of cardamom in Bodinayakanur in the Thenu district of Tamil Nadu, which is also known as the cardamom city.

The center has been constructed within the premises of the Board over two acres of area and has all modern facilities to enable cardamom trading. Spices Board had set up the first center in 2011 at Puttady Spice Park in Kerala.

Small cardamom production reportedly reached 22,000 tonnes in 2015-16. Exports of the spice were valued at Rs 45 million during the year. Both exports and production have witnessed improvement with the assistance of the Board in both development and marketing. Additional initiatives taken by the board include the implementation of good agricultural practices (GAP), the use of bio-inputs, better grading, and optimal usage of pesticides. A cleaning and grading center is slated to come up short at the e-auction center.
